 LATE SPRING - 24 in 24
I take notes on the back of each of my paintings, usually.
We are working hard to put these notes up for you to read. Each painting was done on location and the field notes give a lot of insight to the painting, like the time of day, weather conditions, season, and things going on around me as I painted...please come back in a few weeks to read more, and watch for details about the upcoming BOOK!

1.
5:30 a.m. - "Lightning"
5:30 a.m was a dramatic awakening! Thunderstorms blasted us, and I lay awake "memorizing" the scene.
I liked to keep the window blinds open by my side of the bed, so I could look out and watch such things in the night. Each time lightning struck, I made mental notes of what the colors were. The flashes gave me enough info that I was able to run upstairs to my studio and lay some of it down in a quickie color sketch.
I remember many things I viewed while gazing over the fields in the middle of the night: The coyotes that came close one night, our rodeo family members OFTEN preparing their rigs to travel a thousand miles away for a weekend rodeo, the brilliant blaze of an orange sunrise, and the time the police helicopter shone its searchlight over the pasture and near our window, looking for a saddle thief who broke into the police barns near our place!
